We're on a HostMonster using Magento 1.3.2.4. Toy+Life (http://www.shoptoylife.com)

Store has about 450 products and, as a web designer for the last 15 years, I know a thing or two about graphical smashing, so page loads are not bad, however we're running into some odd problems with CPU Throttling.

We installed the store via HostMonster (offered) Simple Scripts back in November. Since January of this year we haven't really made any changes to the code and most of the site is out-of-the-box. Never had any issues to speak of. We went live a month ago and since then we've been suspended once and have had problems with constant CPU Throttling, where HostMonster slows the site down.

I went through the usual optimization options (cache management, zlib.output_compression = on, tried setting max_execution_time = 100,
max_input_time = 60, memory_limit = 64M) along with repairing and rebuilding the SQL databases. Something, though, is still consuming a ton of CPU usage and I can't figure out what else to do to help easy the usage.

The one thing that was different between pre- and post launch was the uploading of all products to Google Base...however I really can't see how this would cause spikes in CPU usage. And it seems like the spikes are not constant - they come in waves and almost at the same time...end of the month for us.

For example, here's today's 24 hour breakdown:

1 hour ago 517.377 seconds
2 hours ago 254.607 seconds
3 hours ago 237.284 seconds
4 hours ago 21.526 seconds
5 hours ago 21.964 seconds
6 hours ago 9.986 seconds
7 hours ago 28.01 seconds
8 hours ago 116.155 seconds
9 hours ago 4.538 seconds
10 hours ago 250.633 seconds
11 hours ago 60.583 seconds
12 hours ago 25.043 seconds
13 hours ago 155.597 seconds
14 hours ago 167.752 seconds
15 hours ago 28.084 seconds
16 hours ago 88.641 seconds
17 hours ago 51.155 seconds
18 hours ago 70.045 seconds
19 hours ago 52.915 seconds
20 hours ago 140.451 seconds
21 hours ago 191.606 seconds
22 hours ago 156.142 seconds
23 hours ago 410.352 seconds
24 hours ago 236.146 seconds

Warning
* During the past 24 hours your account has been throttled for a total of 3296.592 seconds.

With the seconds shown as total seconds throttled.

When I view the current process report, it shows:

[our store] 24693 0.0 0.0 11044 1368 ? S 07:46 0:00 \_ imap
[our store] 24696 0.0 0.0 11044 1364 ? S 07:46 0:00 \_ imap
[our store] 24743 0.0 0.0 11044 1360 ? S 07:46 0:00 \_ imap
[our store] 2598 0.0 0.0 85488 7756 ? Ss 08:04 0:00 \_ cpaneld - serving 72.227.167.68

So then...where's the CPU usage coming from?

I've talked with tech support before - they point to excessive CSS files (weak argument) and the large amount of MySQL databases - which I won't change either. Their solution was to pay more for a dedicated CPU upgrade (naturally) - which I'd like to avoid.

Anyone have any current suggestions / guidance? Seems like most of the posts regarding this are a year old and don't apply to the version of Magento I have.

Thanks!
