I'm thinking about using Joomla, can I change my background picture and banner? Or do I have to use their templates? I'm not a professional- I know limited html - I put my site together with dreamweaver. Will Joomla be too complicated for a beginner?

If you use Joomla, you will have to use their template system. The good news is that you don't have to be good at HTML or web design to build a site using Joomla, or any other CMS for that matter.

The bad news is, if you want to use your background pictures, you will have to create your own Joomla template for it to work. The good news is since you already have Dreamweaver, there are plenty of tutorials out there that will show you how to go about doing just that. The bad news is you will have to know something about programming (xml and such). The good news is there are tutorials for that too! ;)

Joomla also comes with a built-in banner system and more than a few components that will handle your banners for you (good news).

Thank you Shadmego

I took a look at your site. Was your site built using Joomla? and if so is that a Joomla template?

Yes to both questions.

I notice your website adjusts to my screen size fine, but the church website is too wide. Have to scroll left and right to see all three columns. Is this something that can be fixed easily?

The template I used on the church site is not made all that well. I have to find another template to fit better for users with smaller screen sizes. I admit the difficulty in viewing the church site, but I needed a template fast so I used what was available.

There are literally hundreds of templates available for the Joomla! CMS and each one has different qualitites (two column, three column, fluid width, fixed width, etc). Some you pay for, some are free. I paid for the one one the church site. The one on my site is free. It's really up to the admin (or domain owner) as to what template to use.
