Let’s have a thread where Hostmonster customers can show off their websites.
My site located at www.jonja.net (http://www.jonja.net)
It is a dedicated Sci-Fi website with a lot of activities for users to take advantage of. Including over 950 Free Flash Games (http://www.jonja.net/forums/activity.php?sid=1952e033ffaabf201115466d3cda08b3) that will keep track of your high scores and an Online Chess System (http://www.jonja.net/cms/modules/chess/) that allows users to play against each other.
We also do Sci-Fi TV/Movie reviews and news along with Fantasy/Super Heroes/Horror Genres.
Busy Forums (http://www.jonja.net/forums/) with forums games and Contests.
Also read our Celebrity Interviews (http://www.jonja.net/forums/viewforum.php?f=29)
And since being with Hostmonster, the site has been running perfectly. My hats off to Hostmonster for excellent service.
What else we got out there? Lets see some other Hostmonster hosted websites.

"nothing fancy" seems to be the theme here... so i might as well contribute :o
www.trustit.ca --> a very UNfancy site. Just communicating basic information for now... plan to grow it as business grows.
I will say that my client sites ARE fancy... listed under the portforlio section :)
A bit about me...
I have been working at ATI Technologies Inc. since 2000 as the internet development manager. I recently decided to try my luck at freelancing and so far so good without any advertising (only word of mouth).
Now that AMD has acquired ATI, and ATI will no longer exist as of Oct 24, 2006  , it seems that I may have to pick up the pace on freelancing.
I'm always looking for feedback... so if you have some, please do let me know.

Hey, do you mind an advice?
Tableless CSS + XHTML ;)
Sorry but yes, I'm a W3C taliban :D.
Example (still unfinished): http://www.cactilio.com/artsfaculty2
A first (very rough) version is here, also pure XHTML+CSS plus some fancy mooFX for the menus:
http://www.cactilio.com/artsfaculty
but had to drop it because they use Internet Explorer 5 and 800x600 screens  at that faculty so I had to move to a more simple but still reasonably nice looking layout which would still work in that prehistoric enviroment.
Of course both are 100% standard compliant.
Trust me, the sooner you adopt this design and development method, the better it will be. It really pays off to isolate content from design. And remember, if you follow the standards, a kitty will be saved :-D
The sites are hosted here at hostmonster so this post is not entirely offtopic after all :-)

I'm in the process of moving my church's site to hostmonster. I'm using the Joomla! CMS and am loving it!
Here is the new (unfinished) site: www.febconline.com (http://www.febconline.com)
Here is a site (no longer available) I use to test plugins for functionality. I'm planning on moving this site to hostmonster when I get the money.
Please don't laugh, I've never taken a class on design, or good web presence. Everything I know I've picked up along the way.
I'm open to any suggestions to better design.

working on a website is a good hobby, it can be stressful at times but it's healthy stress in a way becuase you can control how much of it you experience. :) That's why I like it. I currenly live in michigan and I myself have trouble moving around. It gets worse in the cold so I work on my website more this time of year. We've had snow once so far.

Hello All,
Please have a look at the website www.memoryrewinds.com that I have designed using Coppermine Photo Gallery with lots of new extra features like invitation manager, paypal buy button integratione etc...
The website is called VOPVA (Virtual Online Photo and Video Album) currently in use by more than hundreds of customers.
Virtual Online Photo and Video Album called the "VOPVA" is an advanced, user-friendly, picture, music and video gallery website script with built-in support for other multi-media and data files. The gallery is intended for use to millions of users around the world.
At VOPVA, you can create personal online photo albums and share them on the web. VOPVA gives customers more flexibility than community photo sharing sites like Flickr and Webshots. By providing a protected personal space on the web where customers can host online photo albums, VOPVA allows members to share photos with any audience - from a large community of photobloggers to a small group of friends and family.
Please have a look at it and give me your feedback in my guestbook at my website.
Thanks
VOPVA Administrator.

Hello I have a multi-site that I call U.M.A.C. Which stands for United Members and Communites..
The Idea here is for people from all over the world can come here and have a nice place to meet and greet. We play some online games like Superdudes and Runescape etc.. At first glance you might think it is a fansite or clan but that is not the case..
U.M.A.C. offers safe internet fun for all ages. We try really hard to keep it safe for small eyes and I am always open for suggestions by parents. However if I was going to have a rating for the site I would suggest it would be in the PG13 range.
Now do not get me wrong this site has many things to do for us big kids too.
U.M.A.C. is always envolving to do many things. It truely depends solely on the activeness of its members.
There is no fee to register on U.M.A.C. and you do not have to be a gamer or a clan member.. Just come by and communicate and have some fun.
Here is the link to the Flash interface. Once there click on the forums and register if you like too...

My site is http://www.browie.com
It's a general name, I know.
My site is a forum based on sports betting. I'm running vBulletin and using a hack called vBookie. I put up every NFL game and the Top 25 NCAA games and will be starting NHL and NBA when the seasons begin.
You can bet forum points on the games and win or lose against the real sporting odds. With your winning you are able to "buy" forum items. Common things are: Bold your user name and title, Color your user name and title, things like that. I also have a Sports Icon area where you can buy a little .gif of your favorite sports team and it shows up under your avatar.
There is also a neat little Lottery. You buy a ticket for an assigned amount and win the Jackpot at the end of the week.
I just started a month or so ago and it's been growing past 50 users and I'm still working hard to gain more users. Please join if you love sports and are into betting without losing your own money.

I don't think there's anything one can really do for a living that is 100% good for your health. If you can do what you love and get paid for it, then that's the field to be in. :)
Rock crawling is my passion. Unfortunately, my lack of welding and fabrication skills (Not to mention my shoddy driving skills!) makes it impossible for me to do it professionally.
As far as ideas for a website go, think about what you truly love. What is it that makes you happy? Is it something you might enjoy teaching other people about?

Looks fine to me. Also the BigBrush painting site looks good. I've always wondered, though, if there's some way to determine if a user has Flash installed or not, and if not, skip the message that says "Flash required... click here to install", and not leave the top half of the page blank like it does now. Not that it's a problem, as a lot of people have Flash installed. I'm just wondering if there's a way the web page could find out if Flash is installed and modify its appearance based on that?

Not of my knowledge, but I should have made the main page with two options enter html site or enter flash site. That particular customer wanted a lot of flash on their site hence the header and all the flash forms. You question is very interesting though and I am sure a PHP or ASP programmer may be able to do something like that.
Dan
You can't detect if your users browser have Flash installed using PHP. However it should be possible with some Javascript, I think I've read something about it on the net.

Hmm interesting javascript should be able to do something like that. Not one of my strong points it should actually be rather simple with a redirect I would think.

Hi everyone,
In short my site is going to be a business site that will sell games and gaming equipment for computers and consoles alike; we are currently working on a business license and are working around the clock to build a stable web environment for our viewers, which amount.....3 at the moment. We have just moved to host monster from a free host and have been doing good so far. A few troubles here and there but all in all it was pretty good. Please come by the site and help build the community it would be greatly appreciated. We use a good CMS that is not on Fantastico (=P) it's been good to us so far.

Well jadvanced, I liked your sites very stylish. I have some counsel if you are interested.
Give the option of navigating the site without Flash. Maybe for your portfolio page it doesn't matter as you want to show a page as full blown as possible, but for example for that company, I think you should add a version without flash, for old computers, 56k modems and cellphone surfers (this category is increasing every day, keep it in mind. Sometimes it is even advisable to make a light small-screen centered version of the site for cellphones).
Also for the flash menu of the company page, try to add an option to the flash movie as if that option is passed as an argument from outside, it won't play the starting sound and animation. That way you can make it play on the front page and not in the rest. I always find very annying webpages in which the same animation and sound play again and again and again every time I go to another page of the site!
And my last counsel is to try to use CSS for the design and not tables when you're doing XHTML.
Other than that, I think you have a good graphic talent and aesthetic sense. Your sites look cool graphically. You only need a little little improvement in the technical side, which is easy because you're close to it.
I hope this have been helpful for you!

Very good points. Just a quick note on what you had in Mind Mccoy, I had the same ideas .(older browsers, speed and efficiency).
Before i built the site i had a demography research that i wanted to target which are businesses and companies interested in showing my portfolio, not anybody else mainly. that's why i had 99% of the site in flash. I appreciate you comments but i won't take all the credits for it. Some of the animations, I had to research how to do it and i've done from scratch.
Thanks
Good Day
McCoy
01-15-2007, 03:45 PM
Yeah, that's why I said that I thnk it's ok to use flash for all your portfolio, as you are not really interested in people searching for a web designer via their cellphone :P
I only mean that those "best practices" should be employed in paid projects. And of course, only if there is some reason to, for example, make a mobile version! It's stupid to do more than needed too.

Very interesting design concept. I'm not sure if I personally like a splash page, but it could work as a good portal for the rest of the content. I would try to redo the colors to make is a bit easier to read what you have to say.
It's always been my opinion that when it comes to sites that specialize in design, the more simple they are, the more professional they look.
Since you are also selling web design services, I would think of putting some type of portfolio so potential customers can see your work.
On a more specific note, on at least the products page, the flash navigation on the top of the screen is a bit jerky. I'm not sure this is what you are going for. Probably check your timing on the tweening events.
I've noticed here recently that we have a flash expert on board *jadvanced* I think his name is. He could give you more professional advice on the flash and design stuff.

All,
I have just launched a test version of my site Dual Earth > www.dualearth.com which is hosted on these servers and has been 8 months in development (very part time!)
It is (yet another) Social Networking site but has a few nice additions. Firstly, our users can make money from using it. Secondly, users can claim a free piece of Virtual Land which has real value - due to the way we have set the site up.
There are some nice features like being able to see photos and videos of anywhere in the world and also what i think is quite a comprehensive social networking service eg all "words" are links.
As i said we are in a test period which will go on until mid September.
Please feel free to browse, comment, and sign up if you wish.
I would really appreciate comments on this idea, concept and design which will allow us to develop and compete with the big boys.
I am of course open to constructive criticism.
Kind regards

I probably won't try to get it noticed (other than here) for a while. The basic idea is to have people who have or have had depression, anxiety, etc. get together to talk about their situation and share how they cope. The catagories and boards titles are kind of simple and plain. They need alot of work. Anyway.....

I am hosting the following site at Hostmonster:
LifesterBlog (http://www.lifesterblog.com) is a blogging and social networking site all in one. It allows users to customize their blogs, share posts, photos, videos, music and books, and connect with friends.
In LifesterBlog, not only can users upload and share multimedia content from their own computers, but also import content from popular web services. At the current stage, LifesterBlog integrates with Flickr, YouTube, Amazon, Flixn (record video comment), Yahoo! Avatar and Facebook (import profile).
The site also provides very flexible ways on privacy control. Bloggers can select access level for every post, every picture, every video, every audio and every book, and there are five access levels: public, friends, family, friends and family, or private. Visitors to a blog will see only what they have access to.
Customization is another focus of LifesterBlog. Users have various options to decorate the layouts of their blogs, and add widgets (e.g. Flickr photo badge) through a very user-friendly drag/drop interface.
Besides blogging service, LifesterBlog also offers a sense of community. Users can easily connect with friends and families, and expand their social networks. They can also create different types of groups and find new people with similar interests.
The site is currently available in different languages, including English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.

I do my best to help give hope to these men and women so that when they are released, they will have a stronger self worth and less likely re-offend. It is my hope that society will see this and make an effort to helping them back into society and not alienating them.

It depends on the screen resolution. Most users have at least a 1020x768 screen resolution, but there is still a small percentage of users that have 800x600. Typically, if you design your site for a screen resolution larger than 1020x768, a high number of your visitors will have to scroll right to see everything.

Hello everyone,
I’d like to use this opportunity to present to you our site. It’s called "Under The Mat" and it opened on Saturday 18th to be exact. Under The Mat forums include discussions about almost everything that covers this planet, but it’s mainly about one of the most attractive sports in this world, wrestling. Several federations, whether it’s about WWE, spoilers, results and news will be discussed, graphics, entertainment, music and video games and anything related in general is a part of UTM as well. If you’re into writing and just a creative person, the E-Federation is the place to attend at. We run on the Cobalt skin and me and my staff crew would like to welcome you to the site. Here’s the link:

New registrations and the will to contribute to the boards are gladly appreciated. We’re looking forward to your visit. See you around and stay out of trouble.

True, you did digiblur, but I opted to elaborate as to not have people misunderstand your comment. I know fully well your intentions were simply to point that fact out, and lack of originality, but to the none English speaking folk, or those that don't know about phpbb themes (few they are, but they do exist), your post could have been read, and inturpreted as "you took 'that' sites idea and used it as your own'.

To the creator of the evangelical web site in this thread: I like it--the home page, which is all I looked at. The font in the middle column is just a teeny bit small (but I'm learning this isn't an infinitely variable feature the way it is in word processing). The contrast between the three columns is great. The colors on the rest of the page aren't "loud." Is the calendar hot? I mean, can you click on a day and see the events for that day? (If not, I'd put "coming events" there instead of a calendar because most people have a calendar.)
Very nice work. I don't have degree, either, but I use the Internet a lot for shopping and everything else, and I know what I like!
Good luck,
Jan

I'm not sure how to reply to individual posts, but I looked at many of the websites and they are fascinating! Thanks to the original poster who asked the question! There is so much talent in the world.
I am a retired English teacher and pretty darn good editor. I want to edit an on-line magazine for a particular genre of fiction called Catholic fiction, which would be good fiction with the additional element of spiritual life as affected by our faith (think Flannery O'Connor!).
My site is hardly begun, and I have a million questions and am going to the general area right away. But here it is so far:

Well since everybody else has put it on the line I'll throw my little corner of cyberspace into the mix too. www.damianos.biz (http://damianos.biz) This is my first website and it's only been online for a couple of weeks. I've busted my butt with flashkit and google trying to get it all together. Any constructive comments/helpful suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks for the compliment! I was afraid it would load slowly. This site is literally my first Flash project and it's probably intensely bloated. None of the graphics are vectorized and there are still some remnants of symbols belonging to ideas that I've abandoned. I have some major cleaning up to do. :D I do want it to be as accessible as possible but I'm not sweating it too much. I figure that since the site's biggest attraction is going to be the audio content, viewers will need a good connection anyway. :)

Having a HTML version of your site will make it that much more accessible. No offense, flash wise, it's not the most appealing, so in all honesty, having a HTML version for those using older browsers or IE and FF without the plugins (lots of those around) will only help you. :)
If i was to critique the site as is, I'd agree with you on having a lot of cleaning up to do. The font for the sites title isn't right, doesn't fit in if you know what i mean, the rectangle around the nav buttons doesn't have perfectly curved edges, looks choppy...i understand the site is not done yet, but it's always best to refrain from linking until it's complete, that way, you'll get more people bookmarking you and taking a second look at your site.
Good luck. ;)

Hi - have had a website about 11 months now and just registered for the forum. I use very little of the capabilities for building websites but wanted to share anyway. The site started as dedicated to finding information about a particular record company from 90 years ago (1916-17) - still searching - but has since expanded to include images of my collection of 78rpm records and phonographs.

Say, I have a question for ya. I am a linux sys admin myself and never really got down to learning a great tool for publishing web pages. I've used Netscape composer in the past, but nothing fancy.
I am looking at Joombla as a tool and was wondering if you looked into it too or why did you pick Drupal for your we page creation?
Joe

09-09-2007, 10:54 PM
I've used Drupal in the past and found it to be fairly easy to use and administer. It is also very extensible by adding (or creating your own) modules and themes. Joombla is nice, too, but I didn't have time to really learn it. I've also fooled around with Plone (very hard to use and maintain) and various wiki's. Wiki's are nice, but they allow users (including anonymous users) to edit your content. You can disable editing of the content but that requires disabling each one individually. I didn't see any global settings (at least for Media Wiki and Confluence Wiki). Hope this helps you in your endeavors. :)

But it falls to me to ruin the "winning streak" as it were.. EskimoeEthics (http://www.eskimoethics.com/) is my slice of Internet pie. It's no where near what Id like it to be yet and is currently going under some major renovations.. But it's a start I guess. And yes. The navigation bar bit does change when you hover over it! Be impressed. Sorry but it took me a long time to find out how to do it so I'm kinda proud.
There is some mild/strong language used so you've been warned. (Nothing to out there though..)

I quite like it. Colours aren't to my taste but it is a nice elegant site.
The only [minor] criticisms I have are:
The red/beige curves would look better with a bit of anti-aliasing. Jaggies never look good.
Possibly a bit more space between the far right of the design and the content. Feels a little cramped as there is only a tiny gap between the two.
Other than that, can't see anything else.

Wow, some of these sites are just incredible. 1 week ago, before I built my first site, I didn't think it would be that hard to design a website (just a bunch of text linked together with a few pictures thrown in here and there) but now that I'm actually doing it, I have a profound respect for for all you web masters out there. Here's my simple and VERY sloppy website but keep in mind this is after 3 days of experience. It's actually kinda fun to learn new stuff about running a site and every hour I study I'm re-doing my entire site from the ground up to include the new tricks I've learned. My next stop is to add little comment boxes below each post where users can give me feedback, kinda like the comments on youtube. I know my site's really crappy right now but I'm having a blast building it and learning new stuff along the way. www.mariefan.com

Pretty cool site! Had to chuckle though, when I went to your 'Welcome' page and the AdSense on the left is promoting cures for human parasites and worms, heh heh. (Got a screen shot if ya want it.)

Oh man, I thought they'd fixed that. I used to get them too but then I did a lot of work with meta tags etc and it seemed to fix it... :( helluva thing to be seeing on site which is about meeting / talking to people ! Oh well, looks like I have some more tinkering to do ! :o

Hmm, well I've been working on a site for a while:

I'm currently developing a 3D game on it and updating it regularly. Love the services I get here :)!
Too bad .com was taken :(.

Our site www.easycall.net has been on-line since 1998, but we just recently moved it to HostMonster AND did a complete redesign using a CSS template. It's been interesting learning more about CSS and trying to figure out what works in what browsers.
We'd appreciate any comments on how it renders on your computers, especially the menu since it's done totally with CSS; no java.
Another page I'd like you to check that does use java is http://www.easycall.net/ultra-conference/accuconference-faq.shtml to see how the FAQ show/hide script is working on your browser.

I'm new to Hostmonster but I think it's a great hosting so far. (10 days)
I've got three sites on the plan; two in Thai and one in English. And did you say show off?

WOW , that looks SHARP! Very impressive work and effects! For me, there was only one small (and I mean small) issue: I had a "visual disadvantage" trying to read the white text on the light blue menu title bars (e.g. "Sevices", "Features", "Support", etc.), but other than that, it's great visual candy!

I have made a very simple site/page for my uncle to help promote his business. He is a DUI expert witness here in Memphis, Tn.
http://www.duidean.com
This is my first actual site using hostmonster(a real host). I have had my personal site for my auto restoration projects for about 5 years with geocities.

Our site www.easycall.net ... We'd appreciate any comments on how it renders on your computers.
Right in the middle of the page is a paragraph that is one word wide that looks strange; it says:
If
you
want
the
best
deals
but
don't
want
to
spend
Then the next section, called "AccuConference - Conference Call Service", can't be read because there's a graphic blocking the section.
I'm using IE version 6, set at 800x600.

I don't see that but I'm using Mozilla Firefox 2 and at the bottom of the page it says, *=Space

I'm using hostmonster for a HighSchool football website. It started as an online gallery of game images but over 2 seasons I've expanded it to become one of the better looking prep websites I've seen (course I'm probably kinda biased there, huh?). Anyway - hope you'll check it out. Feedback or recommendations are always welcome. It's at: www.lancerfan.com
I'd originally looked at templates from one of the many vendors out there but was unwilling to buy one so I developed this myself in Micro$oft FrontPage.

Hi all!
I also have several sites hosted here at HostMonster.
I absolutely love HM for it's reliability.
www.ichbineincustomer.com is 90% finished blog mainly about customer relations.
www.ichbineininternetmarketer.com or www.ibeim.com is a social network for internet marketers, not yet complete though, set up to compete with... Well, it's competitors (don't want to promote the others ^_^).
We've recently added a dating discussion forum - and it appears to be drawing some members (the main site is doing ok too).
The forum was built almost entirely from "canned" scripts - PHP, MySQL along with a revised theme and some mods (including tinyportal).
The forum is accessible from the main page (http://www.datingdiva.com) (link at bottom left), or just go directly to: www.datingdiva.com/DDforum (http://www.datingdiva.com/DDforum)
Comments / questions / critiques always welcome!
Cheers

Great thread, lots of nice stuff on here!
Mine is just a personnal blog, .com version. Not much of a written blog however, I communicate best with music!
Im from montreal, all songs are written, arranged and recorded by myself in a small bed-room studio type-of-thing. Let me know what you think, or write me comments through the website. Thanks!

Awesome! Let me know what you think :)
I've been playing for a lil more then 10years, by ear mainly as well, but took 2years of classical theory on the 7th. That opened up quite a few things !

There are some really creative people here, and some great looking sites.
Here is my contribution. It's a site for a visitor comment script (http://www.the-commentators.com).
It's a really cool tool for Webmasters, and actually works pretty similarly to a blog.
It will allow your guests to leave comments or feedback on any page or article on your site. New or pre-existing!
Thanks for looking,
Commentator (http://www.the-commentators.com)
