There is an Option in SMF to have
search Engine Friendly Urls

I cant seem to get this working on
Hostmonster

I check the Box bit it doesn't change
the URL

anybody know how to do this?

I haven't played with SMF in a long time, but usually SEF is done in combination with the script you are using *SMF* and .htaccess. I would recommend you check the SMF forum for information on how to set up SEF for that software. I do know with Joomla!, you have to do some stuff to the htaccess file before it will work properly.

I was on the SMF forum

they said i needed to have my .htaccess are rewritable which it is

still no luck :(

I just looked at my demo site and the help file for that setting informed me that feature won't work on the server the board is installed on, which probably means it won't work for any Hostmonster servers (for SMF, anyway). I'm not sure why right now, but I also don't have much time to research the reason just yet.

I might be able to get to it in a few days, but I can't promise anything.

The best I can suggest now is to possibly find an addon that handles SEF.

Here is one (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=986) that might get around the requirements that don't allow the native SEF function to work with HM servers. I don't know if it will work for your install, or if it will work for your environment, but you can look at it and give it a try ...
