Our clients want to use the commerce.cgi (http://www.commerce-cgi.com/) shopping cart on their website, which we are currently designing for them. They picked it out entirely for the reason that it's free.

My question is whether the shopping cart is going to work with hostmonster (http://www.hostmonster.com)? Our current host provider for some reason or another won't or can't allow me to change file permissions to help insure security issues with the cart. I've been in constant contact with them for the last few days trying to resolve the issue which I'm more than willing to do whatever I need to to see this come to life. Naturally nothing ever changes and they are offering me little support. Who knows whether or not it can work or not, they're not helping me and we're fed up with them. I don't know exact details on the finer workings within the world of shopping carts/web hosting/advanced code (currently the graphic/web designer, also do small work with (X)HTML/css but that's my limit).

At any rate we want to start moving our sites over. I assume that hostmonster will have no problem with this cart and more importantly I should be able to change file permissions, correct?

Thanks a bunch guys, Sorry for being such a noob =)

Hi TB,

Though I have personally not used this software script, but the resources section on the given website mentions the file permissions as chmod 755, which I don't thisk is a problem at all with Hostmonster. I hope that answers your question.

Excellent. Though hostmonster is my #1 choice for a new host provider as of now, my boss wants to make sure this will work before we make a decision. Unfortunately if it doesn't work he'll probably pick a different host so I just needed to make sure it was a 100% for the cart. Normally your answer would suffice and I would go forth personally but I need a 'go' before my boss will 'ok' the process of transfer.

Hate to be a nag, but thanks a bunch for the speedy response.
