I am a big fan of HostMonster. I have a dozen or so client sites on my plan and up until now, I have had no major complaints.

However, I think it is a MAJOR flaw that you cannot have Spam Assassin turned on,(for all accounts) and still pick selected individual accounts to put Box Trapper on. As I have just found out, to turn Box Trapper on for one or two mailboxes, you have to turn Spam Assassin completely off.

To me, this doesn't make any sense, and I would be delighted if this issue was addressed.

I have both SpamAssasin and Box Trapper enabled on several of my accounts.

Well, in a way it makes sense. Both Spam Assassin and Box Trapper check incoming email. If you have both turned on, you get twice the processor hit on a single email. Since HM is serious about guarding their processor usage, I can see why they wouldn't both be turned on at the same time.

Another thing to consider is that Box Trapper captures every email that isn't in a whitelist. What would be the point of having Spam Assassin tag an email as spam if it's just going to get caught by Box Trapper anyway?

Of course, all the above is moot if you are saying you have to turn off Spam Assassin for EVERYONE if one or two people want Box Trapper ... but it is my understanding that you can turn on and off both scripts on a per account basis ... I could be wrong, though ..

If all else fails, you can read the instructions by mooredan (http://www.hostmonsterforum.com/showthread.php?p=24646#post24646) on how to get spam assassing to work with procmail. If you go to the second page in this thread, you will see where he gives instructions to perform a local installation of a full spam assassin script, thus letting you have even more control ...

I just turned it on to test it out....

When I go to enable Box Trapper on an account, this note appears at the top of the page:

It is highly recommended that you use spamassasin in conjunction with boxtrapper as it will reduce loads on the server and reduce backscatter to illegitimate email addresses.

I didn't have any problem having both on at the same time.

It sounds like I stand corrected ...

No problem deciding now since they ditched boxtrapper which was the only one that worked for me:(
And it worked perfectly too
Now I cannot even find the spam folder that spam assassin is supposedly sending spam to and I am also getting tons of spam when I never did before and NOT getting mail that I want and cannot find it anywhere either

As a note, the spam folder spam assassin uses is only visible through an IMAP connection. If you are connecting to your account via POP3, then you will not see the folder.

Thanks,
So whatever Spam Assassin throws in the spam folder is just lost to me now?
Seems Hostmontster wants just us to pay for Postini:(

Not at all. If you use Roundcube for your webmail client, you will see the folder. You can also set up your own IMAP connection to your email account with Outlook Express, Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora, etc. Any major email client will allow for IMAP connections. Once you do that, then you simply subscribe to any folder already in your email account (including the spam folder).
