Banning by IP

In managing spam I often will use the Administrate User feature and ban them by IP. However, when I access the Admin Control Panel, Users and Groups tab, User Security, Ban IP list - the newly banned IP does NOT appear! Why is that? What is the point of being able to ban an IP under the Administrate User feature if it doesn't add the banned IP to the Ban IP list?

Is this for a particular web application? Because the only place I can access IP banning through a GUI is under cPanel > Security > IP Deny Manager.

It has been a while since I last used phpBB and I don't have access to an installation.

Anyway, if you don't get an answer here you should try asking in the software's community forum (http://www.phpbb.com/community/), after all, that's what they mainly focus on.
