Good to see the forums have opened up, now hopefully there will be more forums set up and I'd like to receive some information on how to become a moderator as I'd have the passion and drive to do that, as well as work with the community. :)
So I take it this is where all the support techs and admins are hanging out! No wonder I've submitted several tickets three days ago and don't even get a reply - nor - resolution - not even an "assigned to"... NADA! I even called tech support on the phone, so I guess everyone's at the big forum BBQ.
Can someone take care of my ticket - please? Just unpark my domains and create addon directories for me to upload my stuff.
Thank You!

First off, this is a board for the members. You may see some employees here and there, but this is definately not an "official" means of support. As for the "lets get those tickets answered" comments this also isn't the place for that. Again, this is users helping users. And third? If you know that you just need the domains unparked and addons created why don't you just go and do it? Support is for helping you to help yourself, not to do everything for you. Sorry to be so down on your the first day, but come on.

Hey there,
It might be an idea to extend the cookie life for the login. I've made a couple of posts and it has timed out before I've been able to complete my response.

Yeah glad there's a forum.. a lot :D
Great idea with a forum for us customers to solve problems in between. However I have some suggestions though.
That green color in the css class .tcat is way too light. It doesn't work well as background on the white texts/links, hard to read. How about using that green in your banner on the main site (www.hostmonster.com), that one would probably do good.
Also, as I host and visit many vB forums myself I've got to say using the "postbit_legacy" format in threads is the most common one and also the best in my eyes. At least on a liquid style like this, 100% outer table width.
Ok that was jsut some suggestions :) Looking forward to spend some time here and hopefully be able to help some out.

Thanks for opening this forum! I've been very pleased with HM's service thusfar and I think this is a great addition!
Wow, now there's a mouthful! For starters you obviously haven't taken into concideration all of the facts... See below an email from Matt monsen dated 10/09/2006:
[ Ticket #14893]: FTP Files
Currently all your domains are set up as parked domains, if you want them to be their own websites you will need to remove them as parked domains and set them up as add-on domains. We will have to remove them as parked domains, if you want them removed and set up as add-on domains please provide the domains you want unparked, the folders you wanted them added on to, and the last 4 digits of your credit card for verification purposes.
Thanks,
Matt Monsen

Now, this clearly tells me that "HostMonster" needs to do this -- correct me if Im not reading this correctly? Is that not whom matt was referring to when he said "WE" ?
Sorry to bust your bubble guy -- but come 'on!

I suppose you can get support to do it for you, but it seriously isn't hard to do it by yourself! Just remove it manually from the parked domain section of your Cpanel and then add it on using the Add-on domain section! You can get it done in under 10 minutes.
For some odd reason forum members are under the impression that there are no technical issues, and it's all about my laziness. My technical inclination is up to speed, mind you --
I've "unparked" the domains manually -- and when I try to addon to (main) domain account, a crap load of errors pop up.
But here's the kicker... Why has it taken tech support 6 days to resolve this? Better yet... Why did they tell me that (THEY) would need to do this??? Or offer an answer?

Hmm, if a ticket is slow to move, try the LiveChat then. I suppose there are times when a ticket slips under the radar? I never had a problem with tickets the few times i used it, although I must say I usually use the LiveChat instead of opening a ticket.

Yes,this was the case with me too. But then I chose live chat to resolve the matter. Now the support is good, but it has to improve. With the activation of forum ,I feel the admin will also know where the clients are facing the problem.
Since I live in India Toll Free numbers are of no use to me,hence tickets and live chat was only alternative to me.However with forum,I think the support
will be good.
I wish all the best to hostmonster for creating the forum

Was happy to see that there are now forums available. I was looking for them a couple of weeks ago and was sad to not find any. Definitely a thumbs up for a provider that has made me pretty happy so far.

Well, I could use some help.
I'm trying to upload a few images, and I "brouse" and find what I want, open it and it moves to where it looks like it should, then I click on "upload" and it looks like it's going somewhere but it doesn't show up in my image file.

The best way to upload is to use a FTP software. Try downloading Filezilla and use it to connect to your HM account.
The domain to connect to would be ftp.yoursite.com
The username and password would be the same as the one you use to login to your Cpanel.

Is there a service on HM to set up newsletters e-mailing system? I am a new subscriber and can't seem to find the right page for this.
Aaron
11-12-2006, 09:53 AM
There's a mailing list function that you can use. Aside from that, I don't think there's any other system.

Have you seen a free or cheep one that I can download on another site?

There is a mail list program called Dada Mail. It is written in Perl and is installed in the cgi-bin directory.
Main Website (http://mojo.skazat.com)
To set it up right, you will have to take some time and read up on this program, but once you start playing with it, it is pretty straight forward. It is free (there is a "pro" version with the copywrite removed). There is also a "magic book" sold for about $50 US and it comes with a bunch of add-on scripts that expand it's functionality.
Hostmonster also comes with the Mailman program. Sign onto your control panel, navigate to the main email link (top of CPanel main page) and read down about 6 options (I think) for a description about setting up a mailing list.
Hostmonster ALSO comes with PHPlist (can't remember the name). Go to the fantasico installer and look in the "Scripts" pull down menu. It will be under the mailing lists option.
Good luck! Post again if you have any more quesitons. I can install Dada Mail for you if you choose that.
Kindest Regards,
Shadmego

Hi all Guyz and Galz,
Just wanna introduce my self. I'm new in this website thing but i love learning to create websites.
This forum is great for everyone to seek for help but I think HostMonster Forum Admin should make another main category about Self Introduction.
My first hosting experience is with Godaddy.com and this is my 2nd hosting. I find HostMonster is a very good hosting for a beginner like me. A lot of features and tools in the CP. I'm very happy and up until now no problem with anything.
Only that you have to pay for 24 months to get the 4.95 price. This is a problem for anyone with tight budget. And one more request, please make the signature picture to be at least 10KB. What can we do with ONLY 2KB?. Plz...
OK that's all 4 now. Later...

Question : Does Hostmonster Support actually read this forum on a daily basis?????
Aaron
11-25-2006, 10:09 AM
I don't think so. :D
This is a user help user forum, which is a nice and cheap way for HM to offload some of the work from their staff, especially regarding simple issues. Damn, we ought to get free hosting for responding!!! :D

PHPlist is a good mailing list that is included via Fantastico. If you want a better one than go with autoresponder with many options and features.
nice forum, that's a great idea..
Love the forum...when using HM's flavor of webhosting, it is a very helpful way to avoid the same pain that others may have already experienced during setup!

Just a good morning and introducing myself. Unfortunetly I spelled my username as Patricic, should be Patricia ( slip of the finger :), would you be able to change it. Didn't start that out to well. Anyways looking forward to hostmonster as I have been through a couple of host companies and the live support and phone support has been great. Thank you. Live in Canada where the snow is really flying ( not always though) today. New to forums, great way to communicate. Now off to play (soon as my domaine name gets transfered I can get going with this) P.S. Hope this is where I start a post ?

This should be more visible via your website. I just happened to find it by searching google.
If it was more visible, we could get more users. more users = more people helping people.

Is that you Cody?
Thank you for opening up the forum today. I'm new to this web site set up game. Trying to learn. Front Page upload. Microsoft Front Page 2002 is no longer available.
Yet, Hostmonster referrs me to "how to upload using Front Page".
Microsoft is now offering "Web Publishing Wizard". Is this what I should download from M'soft and get started with ? Thanks for you help. JRK

You would refer to the document "How to upload using Front Page" ONLY if you are using FrontPage to upload. If you don't have FrontPage, refer to another document, such as how to upload using FTP, for example, or some other software that you have. You can also upload using the Control Panel if you don't have any FTP software.
