Does anyone know how to setup Exchange Server 2003 for sending emails using Hostmonster smtp as a smarthost? I just want to be able to send emails to "anyone@anywhere.com" through Exchange rather than setting up the individual Email Accounts through each users Outlook setup. Then the user has one Exchange Email and can send emails to anyone outside of the local Exchange network. My local Exchange domain is NOT registered with a DNS registrar but I have two email domains with Hostmonster. People say you can use a Smarthost to send email but I have yet to figure it out and get it working. I only know how to use the Outlook settings for individual email accounts. The emails just sit in the Queue on the Exchange Server.

This goes a tab outside the bounds of the intended use of this forum, but I can help you answer this anyway, since I know about Exchange Server 2003. Typically you would ask this in an Exchange forum, FYI.
If you log in as a sys admin or another account on the Exchange server than can make changes, open the Exchange System Manager program (System Manager) and go to Administrative Groups -> first administrative group -> Connectors.
Right-click on SMTP Connector and select properties in the menu options.
Find the General Tab and click the "Forward all mail through this connector to the following smart hosts" radio button. You can also try to "Use DNS to route to each address space on this connector" option, but I've not used that before, since all the users in the domain send email out to the same smtp server.
If you selected the "Forward all mail through ..." radio button, type in the address of the smtp server in the space provided.
In the Advanced Tab, you can set some security options for outbound messages, like user login info. I would probably create an account on the HM server and use that for everyone. Click the Outbound Security... button to fill this out. Every SMTP server will have different requirements on the way another server connects to it, so you might have to play with some options here.
If you have other users not going through your HM SMTP server, you can move to the Address Space tab and fill in other address spaces. This is more for relaying SMTP messages so I don't know if it will apply to you. There could be serious security issues involved if you set up and configure your Exchange server incorrectly if you allow relaying.
Make sure to click on the Apply button when you are finished making all your changes.
