View Full Version : Did OrangeSoda ruin my google rank?

In the middle of December I launched my site http://www.tffpassword.com targeting people searching for "TFF password".
To my surprise I found myself on google within a few days, and a few days later I was on page one, and quickly rose to number five on google.
I registered my site with sites like reddit and digg, hoping the links would improve my ranking further.

Finally I saw the free offer with OrangeSoda, so I signed up, all of a sudden I disappeared from google altogether.

Has anyone any ideas why, would OrangeSoda be spamming? Or is it something I've done?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Andy

Hi Andy,

Extremely doubtful that OrangeSoda is the reason, they'd be out of business in a hurry.

While I can't explain the sudden drop, I noticed you don't have a site map. Having one would certainly help you get (re)indexed by the SE's.

Did you manually submit your site to any search engines to be indexed?

How long were you on page one before you "disappeared"?

Did you make any major changes to the site in between those times?

Thanks for your reply, my site is just the one page at the moment, do I really need a site map?

Yes my site has been manually submitted to all the major search engines since launch

I was only on the front page of Google for a couple of week before I dissappeared, and no I have not made any major changes in that time.

I have since reappeared on Google but down in pages 7-9.

Confused...............

It may be because your site only has one page - maybe the Google ranking process has decided that you don't warrant a "top place"?

Personally I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about where you appear. Concentrate on getting your content sorted and then the ranking should increase (as long as you've got good quality content that's delivered properly - e.g. if your entire content is flash-based don't expect to get a high ranking :) )

Surely you don't need something as powerfull as HostMonster for a 1 page website, not trying to be cheeky only giving you advice, theres a website place called 110mb.com that gives you tones of free webspace providing you're website is small. Dunno perhaps you have more than 1 site (who knows) but you would save yourself a wealth of cash ;)
