View Full Version : FTP address
Hi,
I'm a complete newbie to web puplishing. I have created a site in Serif Webplus 10, and the publish to WWW instructions tell me to enter the FTP address of my Web host. Where do I find that info in HM.?
I have also tried to upload my site through HM's instructions, but my site just appears as a page of code not the pictures and text I created. What's gone wrong?
Like I say, I'm a newbie
Thanks for any guidance.
WGK
ps my site is a .co.uk

It looks like you uploaded a text page as a binary. Change the FTP mode from binary to ASCII (or auto) and upload your pages again.
For the future, text pages should be uploaded in ASCII and images or other media (like flash, images or videos) need to uploaded in binary mode.
What FTP program are you using?

I think shadmego has it pinpointed.
The FTP address to your site will be just the domain name - billkennedy.co.uk. The port for FTP is 21.
Thanks for replies.
Do I need an FTP programme? Newbie...right?

What instructions did you follow from HM to get your site uploaded originally?
As far as FTP programs, you can try FileZilla (free) or CuteFTP (might have a free version), or any other of a number of FTP clients. Just do a serach for "FTP clients" or "FTP programs".
You can also use the FTP program called "Unlimited FTP" that is provided through your CPanel account with Hostmonster.

I went through "Unlimited FTP" in CPanel.

If using Unlimited FTP, check below the two windows at center screen. If you are uploading text files (html, text, etc), then make sure the radio button is on ASCII. If you are uploading anything else, make sure the binary radio button is selected.
