Installing Wordpress

I went to go and install Wordpress and it said that if I continued files in my ..Public... folder would be overwritten and do I want to continue - I said no for fear of deleting stuff I need - I then went to install another program and got the same message. What do I do?

When you are doing the installation it defaults to your root directory (at least in my experiences) , but you should be able to specify a different or new directory and therefore won't have any issues with overwriting files.

That's true, or you can make a backup of everything in your public_html directory and then install the script you were trying to install in the first place.
