I currently have the Entropy Search engine from the Hostmonster CP installed on one of our sites and have modified the html code so it does not open a new page and also replaced the default page in the .htmltemplates directory. However, we cannot modify the format or contents of the response page because the entropysearch.cgi is in the server cgi-sys directory which people on shared servers do not have access.

The result is that I am looking for a new search engine to purchase and install on our sites. I did buy Search Engine Composer and it does work pretty well, but the indexing has to be done on your PC instead of the server and then upload the index file to the server. That means having to download the entire site each time you want to re-index to pick up new pages. Some of our sites have more than 3,000 pages so that is a major impediment to using it for our larger sites.

I prefer not to use the Google search engine.

Does anyone know of a Search Engine (reasonably priced) that can be installed on Hostmonster's shared servers (Unix) and the indexing done on the server?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

the Fluid Dynamics Search Engine (FDSE) works very well, is free, and is highly customizable: www.xav.com/scripts/search/
