Ok so I know someone had to have gotten hostmonster to work with rails. Here's what I am trying to do..

I have a previously created rails app. "I know how to use rails so save the tutorials on how to install and setup and build a rails app" I want to upload my created rails app to my server... simple right?!

How do I go about doing that? I heard I need to have SSH access which I do, and that I need to connect to it using putty which is either not working at all or is not configured properly.

Now I am a noob to connecting to SSH with putty but I am NOT a noob using the shell or using rails.

All I am looking for is a bit of help. This is to show at Railsconf and to be used for an internship I'm working on. And I switched to Hostmonstter FOR the rails support, which I have yet to see any of.

If anyone has a better solution as to uploading a previously made rails application, please let me know.

Thank You

When you say SSH access, just wanting to confirm that you mean that you have forwarded a photo ID to Hostmonster and they have added SSH access to your account?

If so, Putty should work out of the box - just put the Hostname in and you're away...

You may also want to consider your tone in future posts - you have come across very aggressive which, considering this is a user-to-user forum, is likely to get your post ignored by people...

I apologize if my tone came across harsh. I didn't intend it too. It's just been beating me senselessly the last 72 hours. And yes I did turn in a copy of my ID.

I created a SSH key with a username and pass and once the shell window comes up it asks for me to login and I enter my user and pass and it says access denied. I did authorize that SSH key. What am I missing?

I actually ran into this problem myself. The only workaround I've been able to use successfully is to connect to the server with WinSCP, then connect with PuTTy through WinSCP. I can't explain why it works, but it does! :)

Sorry missed the reply - I've never had any problems. Are you trying to authenticate using a key or are you supplying the username and password in the Putty window?

I simply put the username and password in and it works first time for me...

(Not too technical in the SSH space so not sure of the correct terminology!)

Remember your user name for ssh access is the first 8 letters of your domain coupled with your site password
