problems with html on other than main page

Hi.I'm new to this site but not really green to html coding.I directed trnys for a card playing league for years and now wish to make a site for other directors to copy paste codes for pages I build that they may use.I'd like to set it up where my main page has links going to additional pages for each design.When I try,I only get the screen with files.I have tried loading a file with nameofpageidex.html as main page was index.html but that did'nt work.Is what I am trying to do possible and if so can you steer me in the right direction?
