View Full Version : Phpmyadmin "No Privileges"

Hello - I just set up a hostmonster account. I tried to add a database, but phpmyadmin says I have "No Privileges" for my own account! So I tried through the cPanel wizard, but that gives me no control over my own database names and such.

The other few topics on this don't deal with the root issue and offer "workarounds."

I've never seen this before - I didn't know a host would think to (or could) give me a phpmyadmin account without "Privileges." It's odd because from the little I've seen, hostmonster otherwise seems to offer some power-user-friendly options.

Does anybody know how I can get privileges on my own account's phpmyadmin?

Thank you very much,
[bunnyfly]

You can control the name of your database - the only caveat is that it is preceded by your user name.

Once you have created the database, then you have full privileges over that database...

I'm not sure you can add databases through phpmyadmin ... at least I've never tried.

You CAN add databases through another link in your CPanel called MySQL Databases or MySQL Database Wizard.

Well that's disappointing. Seems like HM went out of their way setting this up to irritate?

Oh well. I shouldn't worry too much. Thanks for the answers.

They haven't gone out of their way really - its just the way that Cpanel shared hosts work. If you didn't do this, then there is no real way of controlling what database names can be and, in a shared environment, thats never a good thing.

(Shadmego: on a "normal" server you can add databases through phpMyadmin but just not on CPanel type hosts for the above reasons...)

Right. I have a test web server (php, mysql, phpmyadmin) on my local machine and I add databases all the time through the program. I've just never thought to try with HM.

I misspoke. Thanks for clearing that up.
