I have added an Addon Domain and the domain name is registered with another company. I want to keep the name servers with the registar and I have access to all DNS records there. Would I just add an A record pointing to Hostmonster? If so, what IP address would I use? Is there anything else? New at this so any help is appreciated.

Just change your DNS settings to ns1.hostmoster.com and ns2.hostmonster.com.

If you have already done the addon domain steps, then all you have to do is wait for the DNS changes to propogate the 'net.

Yes I understand I can change the the DNS to hostmonster name servers but want to keep the name servers with the registar. Would I just add an A record pointing to hostmonster? If so, what IP address would I use? Is there anything else?

ns1.hostmonster.com = 74.220.195.131

ns2.hostmonster.com = 69.89.16.8

So I keep the name servers as they are with Go Daddy, and just add a A records using 74.220.195.131 and 69.89.16.8? That means the A record is just pointing to another name server?

I have an A record added on the NS at Go Daddy as 74.220.215.246 which is the IP address of the hostmonster server I'm on. But the URL resolves to this:

***
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@pinpointholdings.southcoastshops.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

***

As you can see I'm lost. Thank you for your help.

Honestly, what you are trying to do is confusing to me.

Typically, when someone wants to use the Addon Domain feature, they are essentially changing the nameservers at their registrar to HM nameservers, and keeping the registration information at their current registrar.

I've never heard of someone doing this for a subdomain, which is what pinpointholdings.southcoastshops.com is.

If you want this site to be hosting on HM servers, but you want to keep everything else as it currently is, then I would suggest that you simply create a redirect at GoDaddy, pointing pinpointholdings to your HM account. Of course, this might not be what you want either because it would change what is shown in the browsers address bar.

As you can probably see, I'm lost as to what you are trying to accomplish as well! ;)

As far as I can tell you are wanting to have your webhosting with HostMonster but retain control of your nameserver?

As shadmego pointed out, normally you would actually have the name records hosted @ HostMonster.

Whether this is a requirement (i.e. any domain hosted by Hostmonster must have its nameserver @ Hostmonster), is probably a question for the HostMonster support guys.

Visit them via the Hostmonster.com homepage...

Thanks all for your help. Have bad code in the index.html. By the way you can just change the A record to point to the server at HM that your service is on and retain the name servers with another registar. You just need to be aware if HM changes the IP address of the server or changes the server using another IP address, you will need to change the A record at your registar.
