well i'm abit new to here, but first thing you should do is learn abit of html, you should get to know atleast some of it before starting to make a proper website (a good and easy site to learn html is w3schools.com) it might take abit long and it is boring but without it, it will be harder to make your website.

second you need a website builder, you can use 1 from a pc like dreamweaver or you can use the free ones like joomla! 1.5 from simple scripts, althought i've installed joomla a couple of times and i was delete it and go back to dreamweaver. :S the other stuff is just filling it with content, maybe getting a template for free and adding your content really.

for some more tips go to my old free website www.webmaking-tips.page.tl since my new one here is not finished yet. thought it hasn't been updated for a few weeks and theres not as much info as i would put on my new one.

i'm not a big expert too but there will be others around that can you help you but your first step should be to learn some Html codes.

If your just starting out with no knowledge of HTML / PHP, then I'd advise you to get a WYSIWYG [What You See Is What You Get] editor like Microsoft FrontPage, which now is Expressions Web or Web Expressions.. I always get confused.

Its a simple way to create decent looking websites with little to no knowledge of HTML / PHP, plus theres bound a handful to useful guides all over the internet to help you out if you get stuck.

If you've ever used Microsoft word, then your bound to understand FrontPage!

I agree with eskimoethics. Other simple ones are in SeaMonkey or Netscape Composer.

One suggestion for you: try NVU (new-view) at http://www.nvu.com/. I signed up for Hostmonster a while back thinking I could build a site without too much of a problem, only to find out how wrong I could be. But I went out and got this product - which is free, by the way - and now have a very working site. I recommend it highly. Good luck with your effort.

Wow...talk about confused with I signed up to hostmonster. I have a son who is a whizzzz at the computer when it comes to all this uploading and creating websites but he's in San Antonio doing his thing. I'm soooo new to the thing of putting one together without the proper tools, I suppose I got spoiled by Startlogic. They make it so simple....not kidding. You click here and there and boom...you get a nice template and you are set to go. I am sooo confused here that I can't get past the registration. I read the instructions but it's like reading in a different language. I have no clue. Anyway, I too will go to the http://www.nvu.com to try my luck, if not...I'll cancel hostmonster and go back to startlogic.

Hello "xeon",
Websites are built of many languages. Four core languages used are HTML (http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp), JavaScript (http://www.w3schools.com/js/default.asp), CSS (http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp), and PHP (http://www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp). HTML and CSS are the basic web design languages. HTML, one of the easiest languages to learn, and is used for making basic websites. CSS is used for making stylesheets and templates for websites. PHP is more advanced, and is used for making forums and such because it can manipulate, and work with a mySQL database.

I specialize in making websites, and could easily help you make one yourself. I could put comments in the code I make so you can understand what the code does. Message me if you would like to consider this offer. I will do it all for free.
