Accessing a domain after it has been registered...

Does anybody have an idea of how long it takes before I can access a domain I just registered? I believe it may have taken close to 24 hours in the past, but I may be wrong.

they say about 24-48 hours but mine was pretty fast when i changed the dns to hm. there are articles about speeding up the propogation delay but i nevered bother to get into them
