When I am in my forum I go into install new packages, then browser packages. I try to install any and they all fail. I read that I might need to change the permissions to All files are writable and hit change file permissions, then next I see FTP Information Required so I put in my user name and password but where it says Local path to SMF: I don't know what to put in the line. I set up the smf with Fantastico so I haven't any idea where it's installed to.

If you did not specify a directory for Fantastico to install SMF, the path will be to your public_html directory:
/home/username/public_html
If you installed SMF into a specific directory, the path will include that directory, wherever that directory is:
/home/username/public_html/path/to/smf/directory

I have gotten the permissions to change but I still get the error:
An Error Has Occurred!
The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF.
I did get Colorized Membergroups to install, but anything from Simple Machines Third-party Mod Site fails. I don't understand what I am doing wrong.

Maybe you are trying to install a mod that is not compatible with the latest SMF version.

This is the mod I try to install on SMF 1.1.4. This mod was on the free smf board I had been using which is the same version, so I don't think that is the problem.

i know this is an old thread but when installing SMF thru fantastico its actually using an outdated version of SMF as they give you 1.1.4 whereas if you download from SMF directly version 1.1.5 is available and you can just FTP stright onto hostmonster with unlimited FTP quite simply
with the modifications for SMF too you have to ensure you use the right mods for you right version of SMF you are running or they simply dont work
