Thanks in advance

You need a database for mostly everything.

Wordpress does everything automatically. I missed the link during installation but thankfully got it in an email.

I understand that you need a database to install Wordpress in the first place, don't you?
BTW, Wordpress is very versatile and powerful. It goes way beyond a blogging system. I'm experimenting it as a CMS for a website with multiple folders (using pages). Very SEF too.

You do not need to create a database before installing WordPress if you're using Fantastico. The Fantastico program will do that for you. But once you have it installed, you'll want to check the version number. I installed WordPress with Fantastico a couple weeks ago and it was not the most current version. I went to the official WordPress site and downloaded the current version and read exactly how to do the upgrade. If you want to start with the most current version, then go to wordpress.org and follow their installation instructions. But Fantasitco is the definitely the easiest way to get it installed.
When you install it you choose a directory name to put it in, and it creates that directory. Or if you want it at root, you don't specify a directory name.
