All I need is a domain and I'll just use my Host Monster account to host it. Does Host Monster sell domain names?

I use name.com - very cheap and very easy to use interface, free private whois. Hostmonster does sell domains and they give you your first one free.

I use godaddy.com because I usually pay 6 to 9 $ per domain, and they usually sent me discount codes to my email.

I'm moving 1 domain from godaddy.com to name.com just to test them, did you ever had a issue with name.com services?

I have never had a problem. And once when I sent a support email, I got a pretty fast answer. I was like you - I started with just one domain to test them out and once I found how easy the process was, I moved a few more, then all of them. I'm very happy there. I only wish they had an affiliate program!

The only thing that makes me a little suspicious of name.com is that they don't list their prices for domain name registration. Has anyone been able to find this on their website?

??? It tells you after you check the availability of the domain. $5.99 a year.

After you purchase a domain fronm their, how do you tranfer it here nand add it on to my current account? I know it involves pointing the domain to here, but is that the whole process?

To use a new domain, all you normally have to do is point the nameservers to the destination hosts (in HM's case, these are NS1. and NS2.HOSTMONSTER.COM) from the domain registrar's control panel. Then, once the change has propagated across the world's DNS servers (this can take up to 48 hours), you can just add-on or park the domain from within cPanel.

I wondered about the cost to renew a domain with name.com and here is the answer I got after emailing them:

Domain name registrations, renewals and inbound transfers are the only
things that Name.com charges for. Regular GTLD registrations are $5.99
for the first year, and $7.99 for each renewal year. Transfers into
our registrar are $5.99 and include a one year extension to your
domain's expiry. If you have any further questions or concerns, please
let us know.

I hate to ask a stupid question but I'm very cost cautious, when you put a new domain on your HM account does it cost anything?

I believe you only pay HM when you transfer the management of the domain to HM ... a.k.a. transfer a domain instead of simply park or addon the domain to your account.

Basically, if all you do is park or addon the domain, then the only thing you are doing is changing the nameserver the domain points to. You will still pay the registrar where the domain is managed for the use of the domain name (name.com, godaddy.com, etc.) but you will pay HM for the space to host the website files.

The benefit of transferring the domain to HM is easy of payments. You will only have to go to one place to pay for everything instead of paying for your hosting space at HM and then going to name.com to pay for the domain name(s) being used.

*at least that sounds right to me .... might want to check up on this info ...*

No. If you already have a HM account, you can add as many domains as you own for nothing.

So, it basically uses the bandwidth and storage from your HM account?

That is correct - unlimited domains, but they all count towards your account disk space and bandwidth.

They told me that the 5.99 $ fee doesn't covers a 1 year extension fee hmmmm I'll let you know when the domain is totally transferred to name.com if I get the 1 year extension

When I do a redirect on Host Monster, I don't have the option of masking it, so everyone can see it's forwarded. That bothers me. Did I miss a step?
