I finally got Leopard Mail to work with IMAP on my laptop but I cannot set up an IMAP account on my iPhone. Has anyone been able to do this?

Part of the problem seems to be that the iPhone is not recognizing the HostMonster certificate, there does not seem to be a way to get it to accept it.

If I set up a POP account to the same email address and only check email from the iPhone through POP will that work?

Thanks,

Red

I'm assuming that the iPhone must default to using a secure IMAP connection. Can you tell it to use the non-secure connection somewhere?

I cannot find anything like that.

I was curious if anyone has found a solution to this yet. I am trying to set up my iphone to receive my emails but using either one of the configurations that Hostmonster suggests (SSL, non-SSL or POP) doesnt work. I will get errors like this one:
"The connection to the server "mail.mydomain.com" failed.
(I am putting my domain name in place of "mydomain")

Any help would be appreciated. The iphone is my first use of a Mac based product so I dont know a lot about how they differ from windows setups.

Do you have tried any other IMAP-Client?

Normally that happens if the username (not mail adress !!!) of the mail account isn't set correctly.

maybe you should try the alternative username of the mail account. It looks like mail+domain

You find it in the mail adress settings in the section: How to configure a client. It is called mailserver-username

And if you try to use SSL, you must use the hostmonster.com - name of the server, not your mail server. You can find it in your cPanel, it looks like hostxxx.hostmonster.com, where xxx is a number. Please remember, that the outgoing server uses the unusual port 26 and 465 for outgoing SSL-connections.

Yes I have tried all that you have suggested with the correct settings as suggested by Hostmonster for either SSL or POP. After doing some more research on Google I have found most people will just route their mail to Gmail or Yahoo which in the iphone is setup automatically. This seems to be a gripe for a lot of iphone owners. Thanks for the reply and your time.

Thanks for the reply and your time.No problem.

But do you think, that depends only at hostmonster? I'm sure, that doesn't work with other hosters too who are using cPanel.

No problem.

I don't think the issue is with HM. I believe it is with the iPhone. A lot of other people from my research have had issues in setting up email by other web hosts I'm their phones. It is still a great phone.

I followed this tutorial:

http://tutorials.hostmonster.com/iphone/

after I entered the settings it took maybe 5 minutes to save - when it was doing the part of making sure the account worked. It seemed like WAY too long. But I was patient and it works now. I had to keep my phone awake by touching the screen at intervals. If the screen goes blank while it is verifying the account then I think that part has to be re-started.

Oh, also I should say I have firmware 2.1.

I don't know if that is needed or not. The main thing I think if you are going to try is to be willing to wait a few minutes for the verification part. I think it really took about 5 minutes before it said the settings were good. All of my previous attempts, I would always quit after a few minutes because I thought it wasn't ever going to work.

Hope that helps!

I added one of my email accounts to my iphone, all worked fine.

Added a second email account, it can send email, but not receive. I deleted this second account and set it up again, it worked fine and could send and receive from it.

However now the original account which was fine, can only send email and not receive email!

I have them running as SSL, I have tried in the advance option as having my socket as 993 (as I do on My macpro) and 26 as suggested on the help section and IMAP as INBOX.

Still can only receive from one email address!

Any ideas would be massively appreciated.

Thanks

I'm very close to signing up with hostmonster (from yahoo) and functionality with my iphone is a big plus. Went to the tutorial posted here and it looks pretty straightforward. Thanks for the info!

Yes, IMAP with the iPhone works, ...mostly.

I can receive and send email, but when sending a message to the trash, it returns an error indicating that it was unable to do this.

No biggee, but irritating. Has anyone figured this out?

Thanks.

I'm seriously considering switching.

Where talking about email here not rocket science. This is Bullsh*t.

One acct works the other doesn't wtf? This incompetence is hampering my business. Thanks Hostmonster, Thanks.

The tutorial he posted a link for worked perfectly. I even managed to get my emails for subdomains working fine, like this: name@my.domain.com. Just use the tut and you'll get working. Thanks and Thanks again to bashhacker
