I apologize for my bad english; I only hope that someone understand whta I'm trying to say.
I've two domain and two school sites on the same hosting space: www.riva1.it and www.diario.riva1.it
These two sites are made with the last Mambo CMS: the 4.6.2
These sites works well, but we have sometimes problems with 'cpu exceeded' stops. We have not a lot of visits: maybe 30-40 a day, but sometimes happens that five or six boys works at the same time on the administration of their site (www.diario.riva1.it) and in these condition we have a lot of problem working without 'cpu exceeded' warning.
When I speak about this problem with HM live help, they suggest to me to use other scripts more optimized but I'm not able to write a script...
Is there someone who have the same problem using Mambo on HM?

HostMonster is a wonderful solution for our school, but this 'CPU exceeded' sometimes is a great problem for us...

Someone have some suggestions for me?

Thanks for your help!

i would recommend you joomla 1.5 rc4, it should fix your problem.
You certainly will find all necessary infos at joomlas forum.

So you are saying to me that the problem is mambo. But joomla isn't a mambo fork? So if there are problems of cp usage using Mambo I think to found the same problems using joomla... or not?

But... I ask if there is someone who use Mambo on HM like me and I would to know if they have the same problem I've found...

Changing from mambo to joomla for me it would not be easy.

Thanks!

Because Joomla has (or at least seems to) have a lot more development going on than Mambo, the amount of SQL database tuning that has gone on will likely improve the overall performance of the app.

Having said that it may not necessarily help you - however I think most people now seem to be going down the Joomla route.

I didn't think that switching from Mambo -> Joomla was that hard? Have you seen this (http://help.joomla.org/content/view/818/181/)?

I don't know joomla improvements, I know that the last version of mambo the 4.6.2 shoul be most efficient with dbase access than previous version.

Maybe joomla has done more steps ahead than Mambo but I don't know this!

Thanks!

Joomla actually started out as a seperate program from mambo, but the authors of the program came from a mambo split of sorts. You can see this in the earlier version of joomla where the database tables were appended with a mos instead of a jos ... and many of the configuration variables are still using MosLoadModule type language. It's a throwback to the first system, but Joomla went much further than Mambo did in terms of resource management and database streamlining. J! 1.5 has gone even further away from its predecessor, Mambo than ever before. I haven't looked under the hood yet, but I have read the entire system received an overhaul from the ground up.

I don't know how quickly or easily it would be to switch from mambo to joomla, but I would not go from Mambo to J! 1.5. I would recommend going to 1.0.13 first, then seeing if it would be possible to migrate to 1.5. I don't hold much hope though, as many of the modules and components used in previous versions of joomla are not compatible with 1.5. Everything is being rewritten to fall in line with how 1.5 operates, which I think is another reason it is taking so long for 1.5 to be released as a stable program.
