i regarded posts as a means of getting help- i'm searching for help. as you may know the staff is on vacation.
i appreciate advice, but i need specific help.

What "specific help" do you need?

So far you've been far from specific. You've implied that you have very little idea (if any) how to make a website, yet you paid for a shared hosting account. You're now asking us what a webhost is. Am I correct or can you be more specific?
Did you buy a domain? Did you already have a domain? Do you know what FTP is? Do you know what cPanel is? Do you know what HTTP is?

If you are just starting out and don't know where to begin, you should learn some common terms to help aid your learning. These terms are ones you will absolutely run into, and learning them will also aid you in getting help here, because you will be able to follow the advise of others.
Please start by reading this post and following the link in it:

After that, if you still have specific questions, do not feel ashamed to ask. More than likely your question has been asked before so I would encourage you to search the forums for what you are needing help with.
If you don't know how to build a webpage, then you might search for "how to build a webpage", or something similar.
In the simplest terms, a webpage is nothing more than a file that is interpreted by your browser. You can build a webpage with nothing more than Notepad and a bit of knowledge of HTML (read the above link to learn what HTML is).
I also encourage you to not get frustrated or discouraged by whatever pace you learn what you need to learn. It took me more than 5 years of messing with this stuff by myself and I still don't consider myself anywhere near an expert. Hang in there ... you will get it.
~regards, and welcome to the Community!

Also, I would suggest searching on google "Free Website Templates" to help you get going.
