PLEASE use the search feature on the forum. A ton of people had asked the same question.
To quote me from a different thread...
Steps Of How To Set Up Your Site
2. Start building your site. I personally use Microsoft Front page but you can use Adobe Dreamweaver, Notepad, HTML Kit, NVU, Site Spinner, PageBreeze, CoffeeCup, etc.
3. Use your favorite FTP upload tool. FTP tools are very important. It uploads your files into your account at HostMonster. (If you're using Frontpage, I'll explain how to use the built-in upload tool at the bottom of this post.) I use Unlimited FTP provided by HostMonster. I wrote a thread on that. Just go to the sticky, "User Submitted Tutorials" written by Shadmego. ( Shadmego's a great moderator and this forum wouldn't be anything without him and all the other moderators.) The third post has a link to the tutorial. You might want to read the others as well. You can also use FireZilla.
4. Delete the page called default.htm (or .html, I forgot...)
5.. Name your homepage one of the following:
index.html <----Most Popular
index.htm
default.html
index.php <---- Only use if you have PHP Scripts on your page! I f you don't know what PHP is, don't worry.
6. You're all set!
7. How to use the upload feature on Frontpage: (Microsoft Frontpage) Login to your C-panel.(the page that pops up when you login) Scroll down to a icon called Frontpage Extensions at the bottom of the page. Turn it on for all sites. Once you turn on Frontpage Extensions for all sites, swithch to Microsoft Frontpage. Frontpage.Go to the site you're publishing on. Go to File, Publish Web. Follow the steps. Your username is the first eight letters of your domain name not including www. Example: My site is www.fungamesuniverse.com so mine will be fungames and your password is the password you use to login to C-panel.
