On my website - I have uploaded in MP3 format, recordings from our church gatherings on sunday mornings. I want these to be available for visitors to the website to listen to via streaming, and also for download. When I first started to upload these files (connected to links), they worked fine - now, when I click the link of one of the files, I see a page with the Quicktime "Q" with a question mark on it. When I right-click the icon to download the file, it tries to start the download and then says that I don't have permission to download the file. I have tried changing the permissions on the actual files in the ftp tree - but even when the file has a 777 permission, it still cannot be streamed or downloaded. Any help would be GREAT! Thanks! Additionally, the files have to be somewhere in your accout that's accessible by web users. Also, there's a nice open-source audio/video transcoder called MediaCoder (http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/) that can help you get your files to a more streaming-friendly format (like flash video .flv).
