Hi! I set up my own site and added another completely different URL as a subdomain.

My goal: when someone puts the http:/subdomain_URL.com in the address bar on a browser then clicks, it takes them to the directory for the subdomain 'subdomain.fortheloveoflabradors.com.

The domain, which is with a different registrar - not hostmonster, is set up so it points to the hostmonster servers.

I added the domain as a subdomain.

So now the redirect says:

subdomain.fortheloveoflabradors.com redirects to→ http://subdomain.com.

If I go to that URL from a browser I get this:

The following error was encountered:

Unable to determine IP address from host name for spiritwoodlabradorretrievers.com
The dnsserver returned:

Server Failure: The name server was unable to process this query.
This means that:

The cache was not able to resolve the hostname presented in the URL.
Check if the address is correct.

In addition to the fact that I am getting this error, I am confused because it says that the subdomain redirects to the URL. It seems to me that it should say that the URL redirects to the subdomain.

I am trying to use the wrong feature to accomplish my goal?

Well I am not the perfect guy to help you, but I think your mistake is that this is not a subdomain, it's a addon domain.

Go to the post right below your's 'How to change Hosts with NO downtime' , you will find some explanation to your problem.

OK! Now I see what I did wrong!

Quote from Bob's post about changing hosts without downtime:

"If you get stuck here, live chat or email your new host and ask for help. But it may turn out to be easier than you think. You will need your old host login and password, so have that handy.

Now, sit back a bit, pour a glass of Chardonnay and wait a little. "

Silly me! I had a red zin instead!!

Seriously, the fact I thought I needed to do a subdomain instead of an addon domain was the problem.

Thanks so much for pointing that out and saving my sanity!!!!
