If you use his Login Session you don't need a database because it writes to a flat file.. But yeah maybe he will help you :)

Honestly I haven't a clue. But you don't really need to know as its pretty much just adding one file and two lines of code (One for password protecting the page and one for a logout button.) then it does the rest for you.

But If you want to know in more detail ask Sjlplat.

Edit: The passwords in the flatfile are md5 encrypted.

My flat-file based login script is one of my most popular. Most people don't want to fool with databases. The original Login Session script was pretty basic, but I will be re-designing it with more features.

Lately I've been concentrating on my Mailcode script, but Login Session will be next. I intend to design it as a multi-file system, with separate configuration, template, and stylesheet files. The flat-file will be more secure, with all entries encoded to prevent snooping.

I'm sure you're looking for something right now, but it will be at least a couple weeks before I start working on the new script.

all i really need is an register/login/logout system

and if you lose password it emails you a password based off of what was sent to the flatfile.

That can all be done with my DBAuth script. The database problem you mentioned earlier is probably associated with the config file containing the wrong database login information.
