View Full Version : subdomains rootdocument path below /public_html

When ever I attempt to create a new subdomain and have its DocumentRoot path be under my HOME path and not /Public_html/ it always defaults to /Public_html/"subdomain_folder"
The problem for me is that for my main domain name (mydomain.com) CMS (being joomla) is located under Public_HTML. And I have a subfolder with the same name as I want one of my subdomains to be. Make sense?
Coming from PowWeb HostMonsters performance is a crap load better. And I get a real cPanel access and Shell even. Whooo hoooo.
Thanks,
MrChris

You will have to rename the folder something else then. You can still have the same subdomain name it just points to a different folder.
it has to be in the public_html anything above that is not readable by http
So lets say your subdomain is turkey but you already have a folder called turkey then just make it /Public_html/turkey1 (or anything else you want)

Thanks for the reply.
With Powweb I had to use a fancy .HTACCESS file in the root of my HTDocs folder to redirect/rewrite domain name requests to subfolder that I could have located anywhere in my hosting folder structure. Can I still do this with Hostmonster?
Thanks again for the help,
MrChris

You could use .HTACCESS but createing a subdomain through cPanel is much easier no need to do all the work. When creating a subdomain just enter the desired /public_html/*folder*
wait are you still talking about a subdomain? or now just redirect? if just redirect then you can use the redirect feature in cPanel under domains
