how can i zip files/folders on the server?

hi, i want to zip some files in a folder over the server because it's faster than trying to upload a big zip file from my personal computer in which case my internet connection gets closed halfway and i keep having to start all over, over the server i can just zip the folder in 1, 2, capresto done! that quick and then save disk space except i don't see that option anywhere,

There are a few ways you can do this. It can be done with a perl or php script, or you can login with shell access (requires that you send or upload a photo ID) and gzip at the command line.

use ftp client like smartftp or cuteftp.. will auto resume the broken download/uploads
