Greetings,
I am a newbie to HostMonster and to drupal. I just downloaded drupal 5.1 to my computer. I don't understand how to get this set up on HostMonster.
I would appreciate any assistance.
Thanks,
George

Go to your CPanel.
1. Fantastico
2. Select Drupal
3. New installation.
4. Follow instructions. Done.

Thanks for the info. I finally got it all working, but after more than a day of hard work, I decided to try Joomla.
Again, thanks,
George

The Drupal website has some rather strong warnings about using Fantastico to setup Drupal. They report that they have more forum posts about Drupal-Fantastico problems than any other subject. Basically Fantastico is sweet - most of the time. And you have to be careful.

Fantastico...
1) Sometimes uses older versions of web applications (like Drupal). This means less secure or buggy versions that are resolved in current version.
2) The Fantastico script sets up Drupal in such a way that it starts off terribly unsecure.
3) And often sets up Drupal such that the site starts off broken.
Go ahead and try Drupal. But you need to do it the "old fashioned" way - with FTP, make a MySQL db, run Drupal installation.

Fantastico is fine to perform initial setup of a script. I normally use Fantastico to install my scripts, then perform manual updates. This ensures the script and accompanying databases are already setup, and there is no human error to create a troubleshooting nightmare.
It's faster to use an automated install and manually update than to do a manual install. ;)

DO NOT use the fantastico script. YOU WILL NOT be able to get any of the required security updates. They do not play nice with each other at all.
If you installed it like this, undo it man. All you need to do, is setup your database via MyPHPAdmin. then configure your settings.php file and upload everything to a drupal subdirectory.
then just run the install.php script from yourdomain.com/drupal/install.php
I would not recommend setting it up in the root directory either. If you ever want to use another CMS or just a static page, your better off having drupal in it's own world instead of possibly effecting all your other web pages.

That is 100% wrong.
All my forums are up-to-date after installing with Fantastico, as is my Wordpress install. As I mentioned before, installing initially with Fantastico, then doing manual updates is a faster way to get your scripts up and running. It typically takes me twice as long to do a fresh manual install.

This is not wrong for drupal. read their forums it's all over them. not to mention, this is happened to me as well.
Fantastico CAN be good if it's kept up to date, but with the amount of changes that happen regularly to open source software, this is a rare occurence.
i initially started with a fantastico drupal install and applying security updates was a nightmare.
while i can't and won't speak for other fantastico scripts, the drupal one is not a good one to use. and if you use the install handbook, drupal will take you 10 min. to install. and most of that is reading.

i tried to install drupal from the main site, i fallowed the instructions, but had some errors, i erased it, and tried to install it from the fantastico, whats up?
the main issue i was having was that i want to install the ubercart installation module for the drupal. see...the ubercart.org site has a installation module that automaticly installs the drupal installation. but it wont appear in the fantastico area when doing this.
ive been trying to figure out this installation for a while and im still lost. does anyone know about the drupal mod very well? and if so, can you contact me, just to swap ideas and information.
thanks,
Depeche
