Custom 404 page not working in IE7

I put in my own content into the 404.shtml file on the public_html root directory.

When I test by going to an not existing page, I do not see my custom 404 content. I get the usual 404 page not found in IE. It works fine in Firefox, but not in IE7.0.

Please advise.

In IE7, Go to Tools->Internet Options->Advanced and untick 'Show friendly HTTP error messages'.

I did this a different way, I made a new custom 404 page and uploaded it into public_html (I think I called it "notfound") and then set up a re-direct making the standard 404 page point to my "notfound" page.

if not mistaken you can use cpanel, to add custom error page.

i cant check here, cause office internet is blocking the port for 2082 :(
