FileZilla log in help

I am trying to log in to FileZilla. First entered address of server as 74.220.202.48 user name the first 8 letters/characters of my name assigned by HM and my PW is 4 spaces too long to use. I get this error:

next I used ftp.mydomain.com as address and 8 space login name and again PW was 4 spaces too long. (In both tries I used the first 6 spaces of my CPanel password.) With the second example I get:

Is it the length of PW? I used port 21 which I understand is the default. Is it wrong to enter the port 21 when its the default anyways? Any suggestions?

Third try: I used : mydomain.com and the 8 space login assigned by HM and the CPanel pw (apparently it was accepted-11 spaces) - and I didn't enter the port 21 and thats it. I'm logged in. Maybe I need to try harder with everything.

Heres what I do when I use FileZilla:

host: ftp.mydomain.com
username: 8 digit username
password: typed in my whole password. Mine is 10 characters long and I can type in all of the characters. I don't know why you would only be able to type in 6 (unless I am misunderstanding your post). Even though the password bar only shows 9 characters, you can still type in more.
port: I leave blank

This works for me, maybe it will for you too.

Port 21 should work. You don´t even need to type in ftp.yourdomain.com
yourdomain.com will work as well.
