Addon Domain problems

I registered a domain for a new small business I set up but after registering it, it was decided by my friend and me to change the name of the business so the current domain name could no longer be used.

I read that the best way to proceed was to buy an addon domain (because of a problem with hostmonster I had to buy this from another site - hostmonster kept asking me to verify my data when trying to buy the domain name but didn't tell me HOW) and then point it at the webspace.

I bought the domain name and I entered the right name server info (NS1.hostmonster.com & NS2.hostmonster.com. Then i went to the CPanel and pointed the addon domain to the subfolder (http://www.domainname.com/folder/) but what happens now is this:

Say I have a file called test.html and I go to this address:
http://www.addondomain.com/test.html then it changes to http://www.domainname.com/folder/.

I don't want that - I want it to go to http://www.domainname.com/folder/test.html AND also show http://www.addondomain.com/test.html in the address bar at the top. I don't want people to see www.domainname.com/folder. Is this possible?

yes. your addon domain will work independently from the domainname.com

But what do I need to do then? I can't find any options that let me actually access the webspace directly from the addon domain without having the address actually change to the main domain .

You need to configure a redirect for the domain name.

Select the Addon Domain icon in Cpanel to configure the redirect.

Enter addondomain.com as New Domain Name.
Enter the Addon Domain Folder Name as Username/directory/subdomain Name. (Just the folder name, not the URL or the path)
The password field is used to setup an FTP account for that domain.

This utility will create a subdomain under the main account. It will be called addondomain.domain.com. If the subdomain has not been created, the addon domain will redirect users to http://www.domain.com/addonfolder. Check the subdomains utility in Cpanel to ensure a subdomain has been created.

If you have used the Addon Domain utility already and a subdomain was not created, delete the addon domain and try creating it again.
